Plano, Texas, just outside of Dallas, is a beautiful area to explore. Whether you’re interested in hiking, biking, walking, running, or bird-watching, Plano is full of areas to enjoy the great outdoors. Here are two places you should visit for some natural fun.
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve
Just over a 15-minute drive from downtown Plano, the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve covers 200 acres of land. Go for a hike on their 3 miles of hiking trails or mountain bike on their 2.8-mile off-road cycling trail. There’s also a paved recreational trail that runs through the park for about 3 miles, ideal for runners and visitors who want to enjoy an easy walk. Amenities include bathrooms, pavilions, grills, picnic tables, and an observation tower. If you have little ones with you, be sure to check out the park’s playground and swingsets.
Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve
On the other side of Plano and about 10 minutes northeast of the city is Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve. Bird-watchers will love this place as it’s recently taken part in efforts to renew the bobwhite quail population in the area. At 800 acres, this is Plano’s largest park. There are 8 miles of paved trails and 5 miles of crushed rock trails that are great for cyclists and runners. You’ll find rest areas, bathrooms, parking, picnic spots, pavilions, and more at Oak Point.
Both of these local spots are free and open all year, so there’s no excuse to miss out on all they have to offer. With so much ground covered, you’re sure to discover something new each time you visit.
