Providing your vehicle with good, healthy tires is one of the best things you can do for your safety on the road. Be sure to look out for these signs that you might need a new set of tires.
Low Tread
Wear and tear breaks down your tires’ tread until they’re completely bald and eventually rupture. So when in that process should you replace them? We suggest the classic penny test. Put a penny in your tire tread with Lincoln’s head down. If you can see over the top of his head, it’s about time to replace that tire.
Sidewall Damage
Check out your tires’ sidewalls. Do you notice any cracks or bulges in the rubber? If so, you might need to make an appointment to get new tires. Bulges can be signs that the structural integrity of your tire has diminished. These are often the result of hitting curbs. Cracks can occur if your tires sit out in the hot sun too long or from general wear and tear. Either way, these signs point to a blowout that may happen sooner than you’d like.
Pressure Problems
If your tires are consistently losing pressure, you may want to consider replacing them. It could be that your tire has sprung a small leak. If you’re at this point, you’re gambling on a blowout soon.
Healthy tires are a gift to both you and your vehicle. They keep you safe and help keep your vehicle’s lifespan long. Take a look at your tires at least once a week to ensure they’re still doing their jobs.
