Autumn is a beautiful time of year for a calming stroll through a park. Plano, Texas, is full of parks that are perfect for this and other pastimes. Discover what two of them have to offer.
Arbor Hills Nature Preserve
Get in touch with the natural world as you take a stroll through Arbor Hills Nature Preserve at 6701 W. Parker Road in Plano. This nature preserve features 2.8 miles of off-road cycling trails, 3 miles of naturally unpaved pedestrian trails, and a paved recreational trail. Cycle on designated trails only.
You could set eyes on a red-tailed hawk, a Canada goose, a brown thrasher, an ornate box turtle, or white-tailed deer here. Since coyotes sometimes travel through the area, the nature preserve provides material on how they can be detected and safely avoided.
Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve
One of the most well-loved preserves in the area, the Oak Point Park & Nature Preserve is at 5901 Los Rios Blvd. in Plano. This natural area features expansive pavilions, a large restroom building, a 1,500-foot recreation trail, a plaza built to be a rest area, a large lawn for group activities, and trails for horseback riding. Kayaking and paddleboarding activities are available at the Oak Point pond. Fishing and bird-watching are frequent activities here. Thankfully, the coyotes and bobcats are rare, but keep your eyes open and follow park safety rules related to them.
The wonders of nature fill the parks and nature preserves in and around Plano. Take a trip to one on your day off, and you’ll feel the workweek stress melt away in no time.
